Great gig - not much else to say.... There were some songs I never thought I'd hear live (Imperfection, Satellite & esp I Found a Woman & It's About Time) plus fantastic acoustic versions of loads of others. Shame (to me) the electric set relied on Purps stuff, but understandable I guess. I do wish Glenn'd learn the words to Superstition, too!!! ;)

Must admit I didn't enjoy it quite as much as the FUNK gig at the same venue, but it was just such a GAS to hear so many new songs at that one!

Only had my crap camera as usual - no photopass! :lol - so didn't get any shots to add much to Wartypig's. If anyone wants a look tho, they're at:

And here's the problem..........where's the funk?
I couldn't seem to find any.
Or at least not too much, anyway.

Maybe it's a problem that I have with a definition of what exactly funk is.

Fwiw, I agree, Grace. I kind of touched on it in the brief comment I made on another thread, but like you, I hardly dared say voice it openly. ;)

I think it depends whether you 'see' a difference between groove-y rock and 'on-the-one' funk. There are far more hints of genuine funk (& jazz & soul) than the last few albums & the hints are stronger, but to me it's still basically rock.

No matter - coz like you, I think it's a great album - certainly my favourite since Building the Machine & so far in my top 5 Glenn albums!!! :clapper:

Excellent gig - Tarquin & I also agreed it was one of the best Glenn gigs we've seen.

Tarquin reckoned it COULD have been the best he's ever seen. For me, I certainly enjoyed it (even) more than the last few tours. Delighted to see Glenn finally (I hope) playing less Purple & putting the emphasis firmly on the solo stuff. (In an ideal world, personally I'd like to see a Trapeze song replace Mistreated too, but I ain't complaining!!!)

Sorry I didn't say 'hi', but I arrived fairly late & it was pretty packed, so I didn't spot anyone I knew (other than Tarquin, who I'd arranged to meet)....

    Roll on September!!

    Ayup

    Long time no see....

Got it on Saturday & on first listen thought it sounded like it might be my fave since Building the Machine. Listening again today, it is!!! :D (Tho not so keen on 'Too Late to Save the World', so far.)

Being a funk fiend, I've found the last couple slightly disappointing, as I felt that what Glenn & some peeps were calling 'funk' was more what I'd call groovy rock (which I like, but not as much as real FONK!). I've also found the sound a little too harsh in places on the last 2 (esp Soul Mover), but this one's just about right :D

Nice one Glenn!!! (REALLY looking forward to the Robin gigs now!!!)

Off to Sardinia tomorrow, so will try to pop back in when I get back.

Ayup - just passing, as I do once in a rare while nowadays!

Yeah, they were gonna do an album together around the time of Buiding the Machine, which, being a huge PT fan I was elated about - people who were around at the time may remember my excitement!

Unfortunately it didn't happen & 'Celebrate' was all we got. I seem to remember someone like Marc F said that it was coz they just couldn't get their collaboration to work quite how they wanted (or something like that). Bloody shame!

I believe the release that's been announced is a 'Classic Albums'-type documentary about L&D. I could be wrong - actually, I hope so!!!

    Thanks Ad! :D

I love the 1st Automatic man album & fairly recently got a friend to burn a CD from my vinyl copy. I've got a cuppla trax from the 2nd one from winmx years ago & they sound good enuff to me.... ;)

    Oftta order it right now!

Well, got it & finally managed to find time to watch it t'other night. The sync's certainly a whole lot better - I could enjoy the performance & I didn't spend the whole time cringeing!!!!!!!

certainly worth having & I'm glad I bothered to get it, but still feel it could've been a lot better. Altho I can imagine showing it to peeps that're not familiar with Glenn (which I would never've done with the European version!!!) I think I'd just opt for CDs to 'convert' people....

I'd agree that there seems to be a cuppla 'visible' vocal overdubs, but not enough to bother me personally.

I mentioned a few months ago that I'd emailed Frontiers about the alleged 'improved' european version. I emailed them 4 times in the end, but didn't get a reply to ANY of them. (Oh, cept for an automatic 'out of office' reply to the first one.)

Has anyone had any better results? As they don't seem to give a shit, I'd doubt they'll've produced an improved version at all - unless anyone's got definitive confirmation they have....

Guess that was however many quid down the drain & I'll haveta get the US version. It was only the syncing that bothered me - didn't mind the graininess & darkness, but the syncing means I've only ever watched it twice!!!!

Unfortunately, I've already got the CD too.

    Hi guys

Got the Japanese edition today - 'Camel Toe (that's rude ya know!) Stomp' is a good 'un, tho on 1 listen, it's not exactly the 'standout' track on the album. Listening to it a 2nd time as I type....

Personally, I'd rather have 'Isolation', but that's not surprising, as 'Isolation' IS one of my faves on the Euro version!!!

In answer to speculation, the track does indeed have (excellent, of course!!) vox from Glenn. Kinda slowish groove, nice wah-bass, lotsa nice bits & nice solo from JJ. Only negative is the riff isn't one of the most 'original' they've come up with. Speeds up for the outro, before big finish, clocking in at 6 mins 18 secs by my CD player.

Definitely well worth having, but not sure in itself it's really worth £20!!! (But that's MY problem!!!) Actually, it's worth it for me, coz I've already given my Euro copy away!!!!

    Still no reply.

Might try once more. Any chance someone can remember to ask Glenn about it again?

    Hi all

Anyone got this yet? I had an email saying it was on its way a week ago, but in my experience stuff can take anything from a few days to a few weeks to get to the UK, so I MAY be waiting a while yet....

Really good gig - not quite the best I've seen Glenn do, but pretty much up there in the top 3 or 4 - and that's a compliment btw!!!! :D Woulda liked to hear some real Glenn funk...but, hey, can't have everything!!!

the deal is that Big Daddy is more pleased with a good old fender jazzbass.
You can´t blame him, can you ;)

Manne sounds great in the studio but Fender makes it better on stage

Although a similar shape to a JB, it wasn't actually a Fender he played in Nhampton....

Was good to (briefly) see you again David - nice vid - you can see the back of Jane's head a few times towards the end! (And nice pix all!) Jane (first time at a Glenn gig) enjoyed it but only wants to see him again if he does a lot more funk!!! ;)

    Here's a cuppla my pix....

PS Sorry Tarq - as David said, no CD.... :(

Ha! I tried emailing them and am still waiting for a reply. sent it again the other night - looks like being a waste of time.

Weird, their products're generally so good that you'd think they'd care if something' s not up to scratch.

Knew this'd happen.... Still as my european version might take 2-4 wks as i said elsewhere, I might get the Japanese edition more quickly...! ;)

Oh bollox - just realised it's out later there....:(

    Offta order it now, anyway!
