Another hugely talented gentleman leaves the stage for the last time.
RIP.

Yep Glenn, and we are very sad from that big loss
And as you said:
We will remember Mel with love in our hearts,
and with big thankfulness for the Great music he give to us
Our deepest sympathy to his wife and family
Dani and Pete
I'm stuck for anything better than that to say at this sad time.
Big love to everyone whose life has been touched by Mel, both as a musician & as a man. -
RIP Mel.
Even though it was expected, it's so sad to hear this.
Big love to Mel's family & friends, I hope that they can feel the love from all over the world for a truly great musician, and a wonderful man.
The world is a lesser place today without Mel in it. -
Sad news indeed.
One of the REAL legends of 20th century music. His legacy will outlive all of us. -
Got word from Glenn that the new merch and CD's completely sold out, but not too worry, a new batch are on the way and so by the time he rolls into your town, they'll be fully restocked
It has been far and away, the most successful solo tour to dateGreat!
Let's hope theirs some goodies left by the time he gets to New Zealand then! There was an advert on national tv here last night for the G-Taranaki guitar festival in July, featuring a certain "Glenn Hughes of Deep Purple"......

Cool!
shame it'll be the middle of winter here, but hey ho.... -
Excellent! Will that be the only NZ date?

Hi Paul,
Chris Evans and Mel have been mates for a long time, apparently Mel refurbished his house for him, and was on the TFI Friday TV show (at the bar...) on numerous occasions.
Theres a mention about it in an article that John Ogden did for the express and star paper back in September last year:

Bunch Of ...erm...Clowns ?? (not what I really wanted to put, but this is a family show...)
-
Happy (belated) birthday Mel!
So nice to see those photos, you can feel the love.... -
Let me just review that post. Yep, he certainly did. Well, that's just made my year. Glenn, that's brilliant news, mate!
Can't wait for the return of Big Daddy to the Great Southern Land.
Looking forward to the F.U.N.K
cheers

....and he said New Zealand! Bring it on.... -
Thanks, David. I'll keep an eye on this then.
Would be great to see him down here! -
Glenn mentions on his latest MySpace message that he's coming to New Zealand! Anyone got any idea when?
-
I'm gutted, and I can't even begin to imagine how Mel's family & friends must be feeling right now. I just listened to Glenn's new message, and I can hear the pain when he speaks of Mel. These guys have known each other for ever.....
I just want to add that Mel is one of the nicest guys around, as anyone who has met him will agree. I had the privilege of meeting him a few times in the '70's at some Trapeze gigs, and he was always happy to chat and spend some time with fans. A true gentleman. I hope to raise a glass or two to Mel on March 8th.
Thanks to Glenn & David for the PO box info.
Can't think of anything else to say.......:( -
I've only just found this thread.....I don't know what to say.
Big love to Mel & family, and all those who will be as stunned as I am by this news. -
I've been following this story with a mixture of mild amusement and a lot of horror. This Grimley bloke is indeed a sad case, and I can't begin to imagine what it must have felt like for Mel.
However, Mel's calm & reasoned reactions only call for respect. In the same situation, I'd probably have chinned the bloke
Having had the pleasure of meeting the real Mr Galley at quite a few Trapeze gigs in the 70's, I always remember him as a nice, genuine guy who always took time out to talk to a bunch of spotty fans before & after the gigs. So his reactions to this just go to prove he's still a real gent (and still my favourite guitar player, 30+ years on....) -
Brilliant! My joy at seeing Mel is playing again knows no bounds. Big ups to all involved, and especially to Mr Galley himself. It's been too long, mate.
-
Absolutely brilliant to see Mel wielding a guitar again!
Lets hope he keeps it up....:) -
Yeah, a sad loss.
I have happy memories of listening to the rock show many years ago.
RIP Fluff. -
The only confirmed gig for 2007 so far is London on March 25th. Not to worry, the others will follow in the New Year.
I can't make the 25th, sadly. So I'm waiting to hear some more confirmed UK dates for the tour, fingers crossed....
