I am on vacation and this album makes me feel GOOD. It's breeding time

Finally got to play the cd for several hours on the road today. Stunning debut album My favorites so far - Chemical Rain - Midnight Oil - All Falls Down - Invisible - Breathe.

Glenn has put his all into the vocals and songwriting, Jasons' drumming is top shelf creative and Andrew is an amazing player Great group Cali Breed

Been playing this every day since i got it.

fantastic album and find myself singing/humming multiple tracks rather than one or two highlights

my 10 year old daughter loves All Falls Down, especially the female vocals over the top of Glenn.

i cant help feeling that a more cynical/commercial approach in regards to bigger sales would have been this track and Spit You Out with Andrew getting put out front to get the younger non "classic rock" type of audience.

Personally this ranks as one of Glenn's best ever albums with HughesThrall, Fused, Addiction and Music for the Divine

Love the vibe on the debut, but I do not understand some of the noise that is mixed in throughout these cuts? do they fill in holes?, what do they add to the overall effect?, I would like to hear from Dave Cobb on what the motive was to install some of this additional clatter.

Well I've been living with the album for a few weeks now and think its a very good album.

I like my Rock but seem to like the softer, more Glenn solo style songs the most.
All Falls Down, Breathe, and Strong are my favourites.

I'm not sure that I'm keen on the continuing strong desire to write and perform songs that mimic Led Zeppelin, not that the songs aren't good.

Think Solo is a great track and can't believe it was the bonus track on the cd. I'd have had it as the opening track!

Glenn sings great as usual. Not sure about his bass playing on the album because for some reason I can't hear it that well on most of the tracks. Not sure if it's my ears, or the equipment I use to listen. Jason plays fantastic, and I like Andrews playing a lot.

I'd score this as a 7.5 out of 10 album.

The mix leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion. More separation between the instruments would have been greatly beneficial, and I just long to hear more of Glenn's bass which is sadly buried. Listen to "You Are The Music, We're Just the Band" after Cali Breed for a stark contrast. Here, the bass pops out at you and makes you want to dance straight away. On Cali Breed I struggle to hear the bass lines. The mix is just too noisy, which is a shame. If it would have been easier on the ears, I think the songs would have benefitted a lot. Because there are some nice ones here, All Falls Down being the 'classic' among them. Other highlights to me: Chemical Rain, The Grey, Breathe, Solo (why only a bonus track?). Not all tracks are as good, but that can partly be down to the mix as well. Looking forward to see them live.

I'm REALLY diggin' California Breeds first release!
I love every song on this album and have to say that The Grey may be my favorite song, but, each song has something that grabs me !!!

Now, regarding the compressed sound and extra noise comments I'm reading...
I don't have a problem with either! In fact, this was recorded to 2'' tape, so you are going to get a natural compression when providing a 'large volume' sound! I ordered the Vinyl, so, I can't wait to here it on Analog audio equipment (Old School) !

The extra noise may give some the impression that this recording is a-little sloppy, but, after listening to the entire album over 30 times, I'm enjoying the impromptu placement of ALL sound on the album. I really dig the '60's Car Door Slam' Andrew gets around the 1:24 mark of Spit You Out with his right hand technique..that blows me away!!

All-in-all...a GREAT album!!!

recording to tape does not add the so called noise that is intended to be there on this platter.
tape recordings in the 60's & 70's were clean but lacked clarity, & frequency compared to what is available in the studio today.
being old school it takes my hearing a little to adjust to this new technique.
but the songs and playing are fantastic, so that is what I will enjoy.
What happened to the bass don't lie?

Yes I think the production could have been a bit better and I think some of the noise mentioned on here is the weird telephone box with chorus though an Am radio treatment some of the vocals get. I like that actually as it does something different. The production is still better than that awful distracted Shirley work on DafterFlow. Seeing the band kicked up my enjoyment of the album several notches. Really loving it. Great album. Andrew is a major find, good songwriter and a vocal clone of Glenn. Thumbs up!

Sorry to say that, but this album is just another victim of loudness war - one of worst example´s of this crime I have ever heard. I am not able to hear WHOLE album in 1 listening.... it´s just painful to hear that album! It´s really sad, because it seems that in that whole "noise" some really good music was hidden!

Funny how opinions go. Over on the DP board, everyone hates Spit You Out, and that's one of my favorite songs!

Spit it out for me is just.. correct ! my favourites songs are (not particular order) :

- Midnight Oil
- Breathe
- Solo
- The Way
- All Falls Down

maybe 'noise' to you, but i hear vital, powerful rock 'n roll - the big beat, pumping bass, fresh guitar grinding through those marshall and orange amps, with possibly the greatest voice in rock on top of everything....oh yeah, my kind of noise.

Hey, have now listened to the CB a time, Unfortunately, it is so poorly mixed, and the songs are not the status as Glenn always give out. And now Bonham's out of the game.
Sad but true ....

Not agree, Gribban. The album sounds great. Heavier than most of GLENN'S albums. But that's GLENN. He surprises you all the time. Jason is out and Joey is in and what's most important of all GLENN is in.

Just like you, Willem, I am a huge fan of GH, but it's just production that falls here and the songs are not as strong in my opinion. Glenn's voice is normally outstanding good. Luckily, we are all different in taste.

Been listening to California Breed a lot lately. It is different kind of GH album and I like it because of that.

Did they record or film any of those shows they did? Might have said this before but I'd like to get some sort of live release from them.
