BCC ~ Afterglow ~ arrives Oct 30 2012

  • I think both CD packages include a DVD - it's just that the 'Limited Edition' has more on it's DVD! I know confusing, huh?! From what I can tell the European label, Mascot, is issuing the 'Limited Edition' DVD... the one from the BCC website, is just the regular edition CD/DVD I think... I could be wrong... you should probably ask the question over there. See earlier post as for the contents...

  • Fingers crossed the new band is in the funk rock vein and that the vocals will be more close to the TWII style of singing, with a dose of Play Me Out/Feel for good measure ;)

Glenn's hard rock singing as of late sounds a bit forced at times, imho. It doesn't sound natural for him. He's so much better when he lays back a bit, and lets the real Glenn come through (see above albums). I guess I'm longing for the more soulful singing.

  • Here's the 5+ minute preview of each of the songs from Afterglow, if you just can't wait until next month :p :cool1:

    1. Big Train
    2. This Is Your Time
    3. Midnight Sun
    4. Confessor
    5. Cry Freedom
    6. Afterglow
    7. Dandelion
    8. The Circle
    9. Common Man
    10. The Giver
    11. Crawl

I couldn't disagree more with you about his rock singing. He is singing with all the power and range that one could ever hope for. I was at two BCC shows last year and I can tell you he was dead on! No ducking notes, no straining, no taking the easy way out.

I do however understand your appreciation for his other side and from the latest video, I think we are going to get a little bit more of that on Afterglow. He has said as much.

In any case I highly doubt he will be going back to the aforementioned records in style. He is always evolving, mixing and refining many styles along the way. That's the way it is! ;)

Oh, you misunderstood me. No problems with the range, it's just that he shines more when he doesn't push himself to the edge, so to speak. When he takes it down a bit and just does his thing, which is what I love about Play Me Out, Feel and those records. This is where Glenn shines the most imho. Not when being "rock" and singing as agressively and full on as he tends to do on the BCC tracks, HS on Re-Machined etc. That "new" style of singing for him introduced itself when he announced he would be focusing on rock around the start of BCC.

Yet, it's probably his vocal work on H/T, Phenomena, From Now on, Feel etc that fans hold closest to their hearts. His melodic, more sensitive style (which was often rocked up as well).

    Just my 2 cents.

  • Thanks a lot for the short review of each song! Favs straight away: Afterglow, The Circle and Crawl which may change after listening to the full album a few times. Can't wait!

Pre-ordered the ltd. edition (cd+dvd) yesterday at amazon.de for 17,99 EUR (14,37 GBP) which is supposed to be released on October 26, 2012 by Mascot Records (rough trade). The Vinyl is the same price on amazon.de while amazon.co.uk offers it for 25,66 GBP (32,13 EUR) which is nearly twice as much. So in Europe it's well worth looking for the best offer incl. shipping.

danielb: I totally agree with you wishing for some soulful funkrock again
I love the BCC rock albums and BCC became my favorite rock band straight away but I would be over the moon if the new brotherhood would expand the rock direction to real heavy funkrock and soulful ballads with less screaming but more melodic singing of Glenn (I just love his soulful singing too much when he shows all colors of his voice).

If BCC is to continue, then I'd say yes to that. It would be somewhat in contrast to the BCC stuff. Much like Joe with his solo stuff. Definitely a chance to branch out and perhaps do some more in the way of touring. Then catching up with the BCC boys when it works for all of them.

I'm pretty sure though that we are going to get something we haven't before, as it's been explained to expect the unexpected. So I wouldn't get too much of a mental picture of what it will be. It likely won't be that at all. I'm good with just waiting and soaking it all in, whatever it ends up being.

  • Been listening to Confessor over and over again for the past few days. Definitely one of my personal favorites for Black Country Communion, and the samples of the rest of Afterglow on the main BCC website have me really excited.

The title track in particular has me very excited :D

  • Yeah, I definitely hope to hear BCC on the radio at some point :) Great for Eddie to play some of the music on his show :)

What track is everyone most excited about hearing? I'm most excited to hear the title track, myself :)
