Classic Rock Magazine - 50 best albums of 2011

  • I'm not gonna type out all 50!

    Here's the top 10:

    1. Mastodon - The Hunter
    2. Rival Sons - Pressure and Time
    3. The Union - Siren's Song
    4. Black Stone Cherry - Between the devil and the deep blue sea
    5. Joe Bonamassa - Dust Bowl
    6. Opeth - Heritage
    7. Whitesnake - Forevermore
    8. Foo Fighters - Wasting Light
    9. Jane's Addiction - The great escape artist
    10. Tedeschi Trucks Band - Revelator

Not my personal top 10 this year as i haven't heard them all but I bought and really enjoyed Rival Sons and The Union and heard Opeth's - all 3 would be in my top 10 this year.

BCC2 was at #13, Journey's Eclipse (superb in my opinion) at #18 and Bonamassa/Hart at #21.

Here's some of what they said about BCC2 -

    Quote

deeper and a little more demanding than its predecessor, yet it continued to reflect and even update the classic hard rock of the protagonists illustrious CV's. If the album took slightly longer to digest and appreciate than the band's debut, the consensus is that it was well worth the effort. Key Track - Cold

  • Thanx Wolfy: Whitesnake with forevermore has it's very strong moments: The title track Forevermore, for instance.
BCC2 should be in the top 10

  • i too like "Forevermore" from Whitesnake much, and i love the titletrack, agree with you Willem. And there are some other great moments on it, but at all the Whitesnake songwriting is a bit traditional for me, too much Rockn' Roll cliche. Strong is Davids singing of course and the two perfectly arranged guitars on it.
For me there's too much mainstream chords.

Glenn's writing is different, his funky elements and the way he puts together blues and rockstyles is always magic for me.

    regards
    Sigurd

totally agree with you.. I like Forevermore but a least BCC2 should be at a better place than the last snake album...

  • I hope I don't get slapped but I never even heard of Mastodon until this moment and their album made it to number 1? Must have been missing a lot. For me BCC2 was one of the best albums last year, surely worth a place 1-3...
