Quote
.......The much-anticipated farewell to Heaven And Hell was enjoyable, though perhaps less stellar than I expected. The outpouring of love from co-frontmen Glenn Hughes and Jørn Lande did Ronnie James Dio proud, as did Wendy Dio’s tearful speech, and the show was a good send-off, but sparks didn’t fly – not for yours truly. However the set’s conclusion did provide HV with its own ‘Jarvis Cocker at the Brits’ moment when Down’s Phil Anselmo, who’d been watching side-stage ran on and seized the microphone from Hughes during the encore of ‘Neon Knights’. Despite putting his arm around the tattooed, muscle-bound interloper and gazing imploringly into the wings, Glenn seemed to mistake Anselmo for some punter who’d made it onstage, his phased expression seeming to cry out: “SECURITY!” Almost as chucklesome as the part which saw Hughes sing into the wrong end of the microphone – true! However, the tribute show was performed with 101% conviction and sincerity. Somewhere, somehow, I’m sure Ronnie James Dio will have been looking down and smiling. ......... -

watched this and a couple of observations.
Thought Foreigner were brilliant and particularly impressed by Kelly Hansen the lead singer. Thought he sounded great.
ELP were awful, i'm sorry but how did they become so massive. [No Greg Lake jokes intended!]. Carl Palmer a great drummer though.
Paul -
Paul,
I was there, and Foreigner were brilliant, indeed. Totally unexcpected.
And Yes, Kelly Hansen was impressive. Awesome performance.
As for ELP:
Greg Lake has apparently added a bit of weight, reason's as simple as that he 'likes to eat' - at least that's what I have read! Besides he quit smoking a few years ago, and that adds aswell.
Unfortunately their performance was a bit rushed due to a delay caused by Down 'n Outz & Ian Hunter and problems with KE's keyboard rig and the monitoring.
I consider ELP groundbreaking and 'massive'. There isn't any band like them.
I have been listening to them since I was 13 years old and I'm glad I got to see their - as it seems - last ever performance.
Cheers,
Christian -
the reason H&H arent on TV is because their set is coming out on DVD to help raise funds for the RJD Cancer Charity.
Currently listening to the album Swagger by Gun -
Chris
I don't know what it is about ELP. I think it is the lack of guitars! I mean, i love Jon Lord/Deep Purple so i have no problem with keyboards!
Foreigner over the years have really written some truly great rock songs. I just thought those two tracks really sounded great and if people weren't rockin out to them they must be mad!
Best wishes,
Paul -
