Frank, I saw Led Zeppelin OPEN for The Who at Merriweather Post Pavillion in Columbia, Maryland in 1969.....the FIRST & ONLY time the two acts appeared together!

Who would you like Glenn to open for?
-
-
Oo now hmm more on this topic later I believe.
"Opening" can be an advantage.
It breaks my heart to say it but I witnessed DP being soundly whupped by Lynyrd Skynyrd who opened in Birmingham UK. Frampton and Thunder also had a good go at them in Manchester but Purple just managed to scrape through in injury time.
Whitesnake (I hate to say this) opened for Def Leppard. Maybe they tossed a coin soccer style. I dunno. Anyway that was when it didn't work very well. Ask wolfy!
Hey you know what what? This week I vow to write a cheerful post. Ok band? Ooo I'd have said Metallica. Seriously. because nobody is competing there for vocal superiority. Glenn would provide a contrast to the bill. There's a meeting of minds on the booze front too!
Hey wolfy, I was out with Cheap Trick's former UK plugger for CBS, Pen on Friday at Phil Easton's memorial. He is still a fan of the band and recommending the last DVD. -
GOTTA BE STEVIE WONDER!
-
Not sure who I'd like to see Glenn open for but I would love to see Eric Gales open for Glenn.
-
And I would like Glenn Hughes open for Glenn Hughes
-
Living Colour and Glenn Hughes would be awesome
Soulive, Galactic, Fishbone, Lenny Kravitz, The Black Crowes, Tower of Power, Jamiroquai, Robin Thicke, Joss Stone, and John Mayer could all work.
maybe the Doobie brothers and Journey -
It's hard to imagine Glenn to open for someone else maybe because I've seen him only as a main performer.
-
I know Glenn is class, and by far the best singer I've seen live, and I've seen some good ones. But he's in a niche market. I saw Gary Moore play to maybe a couple of thousand folk in Glasgow recently. Sad to say, Glenn wouldn't get that response. Maybe he's not too bothered. Pity he didn't get a stint with Satriani and Chad. Now there's a three-ball!
I'd like to see him get the acclamation he deserves on a wider scale, but how you do that..... -
This is a great thread...and here is the scenario...yes, I would welcome opening for other Artists...absolutely.
Here's a coupla' things I'd like you to know...
Deep Purple's Mgr and Agent will never allow that to happen (and I think its obvious why) in fact, any promoter that has tried to book us 2gether, gets an ear full from the Purple camp "never!!!" FYI, this makes me howl with laughter...
The same scenario has happened with the other Artists...
You see, I won't play the Metal 80's packages they have in the States...or I won't play Metal festivals...
Simply because, all the bands are really believable in/for that market and era...and that's all fine and dandy for them...
Yes, we even tried the Peppers route, but a couple of the guys thought my affiliation with Deep Purple was inappropriate for their fans...and a fair comment...I get it.
Until people, fans, agents, Media have seen me perform live, they could never understand "the live GH experience"...I am on schedule...I have a tremendous urge, and a whole lot of patience...yes, it would be wonderful to play with Kravitz or the Black Crowes and anyone that plays Rock and Soul.
I am the Captain of my Universe...I do not want to market myself as someone who is not real...
Carl (my Manager) and I are believers of stayin' authentic and with good 'ol fashioned word of mouth by the thousands of new fans I get each year, reinforcing my energy and allowing me to be an Artist who makes a Statement with each Album and Tour.
I am enjoying my new life...please remember that I almost died in 1991...many of my friends; Tommy, Bonzo, Lynott, Kevin and Chris Farley were not so lucky...what I'm sayin' is, I am SO grateful for the gifts that God has given to me...I was barking like a Dog on Xmas '91...insane...
You, my fans, have stuck by me...there are many new fans who grew up on "Feel" or "Soul Mover" who are now groovin' 2 "M4TD" and "FUNK".
I love you...more than you know...I will get to play to more people than ever these next 2 years...
THE BEST IS YET 2 COME

Thanks for the update G!!!!! Personally I like you as just you doing what you do with your carefully chosen band! It was great seeing you at Childline Rocks with Thunder and some of theother acts and you do work well with other people. But like you say - you are one authentic puppy and that is why we love ya! Keep on doing your funky thing mr!!!! And any chance that you will be in Rio anytime soon, I'm itching to get over there to see you! xxxxx

Glenn certainly said a mouthful there !!
Seeing as to how well Childline Rocks has gone over for the past two years, what about a co-headline tour with Heep and the Zombies ? Three different types of music but would still be consistent enough to make everyone happy. Doing a "Childline" tour would be awesome. -

This is called "being a smart promoter."
This is also called "protecting your client's @$$, versus, the talents of Mr. Hughes."

Give that man a cigar! OOPS, I mean......a stalk of calorie-free celery.

You think that we fans don't think about this, and are grateful that your name isn't on that list?
Try singing "I don't want to live that way again" at an up-coming live performance, and watch
the audience's reaction. We know that that song is you......writing about you.
But that snappy tune can be applied to so many other circumstances in......our lives.
A few years back, "Coast to Coast" won a poll here, as being our favorite GH song.
But I think that "IDWTLTWA" is the song that, word for word.......means the most.

OK, folks, we have the statement from Mr. Voice himself..........
...........everything up until now was just practice
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thanks Glenn, for taking the time to write this post.
Now make us all happy, and go eat a piece of chocolate -
Not so sure now that i could stand only a 30-45 minute set from Big Daddy supporting someone else!
However, if it enabled the word to be spread.
Welcome to The Voice....
of Rock
of FUNK
of Soul
then who am i to argue -
Glenn certainly said a mouthful there !!
That would be interesting to see but I don't think it would work. The people who aren't GH fans would probably expect a different sound more like Deep Purple. I generally try to be open minded about everything I listen too but most people aren't like that.
A Glenn Hughes/RHCP tour always looked like a great idea to me. I'd expect at least a reasonable number of Pepper fans would have checked out Glenn Hughes because of the Chad Smith connection, and I could see their fans digging the solo stuff. Kinda too bad it won't happen.
It seems hard to really find any bands that would fit on a bill with Glenn who he could open for, most of the ones that come to mind aren't exactly headliners. -
It's always interesting to get G.s imput on some of the things that we talk about on here ( Thanks G.) . I was just thinking (for fun) that G. would have to play w/ someone that he gets along w/ or it probably couldn't work anyway. In the spirit of "what if..." , how about Heaven and Hell, or Over the Rainbow ?
Peace, -
Think we already had that with HTP...been there done that...I hope
-
Glenn And Stevie Wonder...
How awesome would be that? -
I'm @ a place, musically, where I do not fit in with Heavy Metal shows...I have been offered to play with Major Metal bands, but I declined as my music is not in that Genre...no disrespect to any of those Artists...some of them are my friends.
The only time it works is with Tony Iommi...I am so happy for him and Ronnie, these guys are like family to me.
I have never been "Metal"...it's not me...especially live...
Its always been: Rock/Soul and Funk...
It's all I know...I am believable in this Genre...I smell it, and taste it, and more importantly FEEL it...
I am SO happy with my ongoing growth as a writer and Vocalist...I'm on the Path that has been laid out for me...Progression, not perfection...I will keep pushin' the boundaries...there will be surprises...I'm always workin' on a lil' somethin'...
Thanx for the love...I can FEEL it!!
Glenn, good on you!!! Funk On!!!!!!!
I think it would take a very rare confidence for an artist to want you to open for them. Someone who would just realize that they were in a unique position of having an opener that was going to blow them off the stage, and the historical sense to understand the coolness of it -- or a dottering idiot, one or the other. lol
Susan says it would be like eating a great dessert before the meal. (don't know what she means by that, dang her eyes. LOL)
