New Jersey Private Bash VI

  • This past weekend Glenn and his band played a private event in New Jersey, USA. Firstly, we have to thank Mike Moore for the invitation, hospitality and for making it all possible, as well as all his close friends for again welcoming us with open arms. It was great to meet up with old friends and also to make a few new ones. Also, kudos to Mike for allowing us to invite so many fellow GHCP's and for those who were unable to make it, you sure missed a good time!

Glenn's band this time around featured Jeff Kollman on guitar, Anders Olinder on keys and Matt Goom on drums.

The multi-part setlist was as follows:

    Electric Set Part 1
    Soul Mover
    Orion
    Never Say Never
    Oil And Water
    Mistreated
    You Got Soul

    Acoustic Set
    Black Cloud
    Imperfection
    Satellite
    Where There's A Will
    Holy Man

    Electric Set Part 2
    Coast To Coast
    Gettin' Tighter
    Don't Let Me Bleed
    Steppin' On

    Encore:
    You Keep On Movin'

Find attached a movie clip featuring my favourite section from Gettin' Tighter plus a couple of pix. There may possibly be a couple of extra movies coming, if Glenn gives his blessing

  • We are back on the Riviera and would like to say a big big thank you to Mike Moore, David, Shirean and of course to Glenn & his band for the incredible evening we spent all together.
It was a real pleasure to meet Roger, Susan, Kenny, Carolyn (the birthday girl), Bill (Harry says hi...), Bart, John, Damian and to see the Dawsons again.
I'm probably forgetting some others. Hope you will excuse me, I'm a bit jetlagged
As I told Roger, that's incredible how the web can bring so many great people together.
Jerome did hundreds of pictures. We will post the best ones ASAP.

PS : the Zinfandel Rosé wine was a killer

  • It was an amazing performance and an amazing night!

I cannot thank David and Shirean and of course Mike Moore enough for inviting us to this party.

The people I've met through this board are just some of the finest you'll ever meet. There were some there that I've met before and many new ones as well.

It was night we won't forget!

And I must thank you Glenn. You and your lovely wife Gabi are wonderful people.

You get better and better!

  • It was truly a killer night of music and friends. Thanks Mike, David and Shirean. So great to meet everyone.

And thanks Glenn. Brother you were on FIRE, you had to be feeling the love in that room. Thanks for Coast to Coast, too. Such a big big part of my life.
    I won't forget it.

  • Well..where to start??

I left Harrisonburg VA at about 11 a.m. and got to drive through the remnants of Hanna on the trip north. It was pretty ugly on the road and I saw some nasty wrecks along the way. There were a few white knuckle moments of my own..so when I got to the Hilton I was stressed to the core..felt like I had drunk 10 cups of coffee.

    I enter the back of the hotel and proceed to have a Spinal Tap moment; in my search for the lobby, I seem to walk through an endless maze of rooms and am confronted with numerous "WET PAINT" signs. I can hear people but I can't get to them! Two thoughts are running through my frazzled mind;

There better be a huge chunk of cheese at the end of this maze because I am starving...

Spinal Tap is obviously a true story!

Seconds before I am about to have a mental meltdown someone stops me and I ask him how to get to the lobby and the bar.....just go up those stairs....Sure, I knew that!

And there they are..all the GHCP"s gathered around the bar. David and Shirean, Bart, Roger and Susan, Chuck, Vinnie, Forever Young, Jerome and Nathalie, Kenny and Carolyn, Damien, Donnie......I am just trying to catch my breath and catch the bartenders' eye for a much needed beer. We make our way up to the Sky Room a little after six and there are two tables set aside for the GHPG crew....now how chrome plated cool is that??

Glenn, Jeff, Matt and Anders take the stage and as you have all seen the set list this was a real treat! Matt drives the band and does Chad proud, Anders brings all those cool jazz shades to the table and Jeff is just fabulous; it was funny to hear him later confess that he was trying to remember the riff to "Stepping On" as they start the song.....but Toledo's finest landed on his feet and laid it down!!

In a small setting such as this, it is especially cool to listen to Glenn go into his scats at the endings of some of the songs. "Mistreated" began with a jaw dropping intro from from Jeff and ended with Glenn's voice, summoning the satellites of soul; Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye....I was gobsmacked..didn't dare take a picture and break the spell with an errant strobe flash...

The set was longer than any I had experienced before and a snippet of Leon Russell's "Superstar" closed out the night....I think Luther Vandross was smiling up above during that one!

The acoustic set was not only a treat for the audience but a real test for Glenn as a guitarist; some seriously difficult chord voicings and this is where Anders makes his talent felt....what a humble, kind man and what colors he brings to the musical buffet.

Mike Moore knows how to throw a party; a killer buffet and a wonderful atmosphere. It may have been dark and rainy outside but the warmth and love inside made you forget about the weather.....I certainly did!

But when the music ends and the lights come up it is all about the people isn't it? It was great to meet the Blogmeister himeself; Damien....Roger and Susan doing the big city, Nathalie and Jerome getting to see Glenn after missing him in Detroit, my homeys; Kenny and Carolyn, David, Shirean and Jason enjoying a getaway from the hellish Florida summer, seeing Bart again after the Frank Marino show a few months back......Glenn talks about his people and what a fabulous group you all are...it was an evening I won't forget!

I did take some pictures which dwell in the "good but not earthshaking" category though I noted with considerable anusement that David took the same picture I did..the sign on our table saying "Reserved for GHPG"...great minds think alike ;) And I thought I saw Phil Collins in the crowd too....OK, maybe Phillipe Collins would be closer to the mark!

We all met for breakfast in the morning, said our goodbyes and it was over the George Washington Bridge and back in Queens for a much needed nap before I had to go back to work that night.

It doesn't get any better than that...right Kenny??

Thank you one and all
