Nice one....Cheers..
I saw him last year(solo) and this year (supporting Satriani) . Will be seeing/photographing him again in November (can't wait)
Here's one from last year.. -
Ive been wondering what the deal is with the headphones...I didn't dare ask him when he called us at work (and he's a super nice guy also and gave me a great quote about HTP) is it hearing issues- like when Eric Johnson had to wear them during G3? Or just a different way of monitoring? It is wierd.

Those look like standard ear muffs that guys use on a shooting range or, in my case, working in a noisy environment. The ones I use have a 22 db reduction rating and you can actually hear a lot with them...but whether it is a Marshall stack or a PW 4000 jet engine they make the difference between working in comfort and getting your ears reamed.
I do remember a magazine article in which Tony Franklin describes having a pair of customized ear plugs made for him; he was referred to this particular specialist by Carmine Appice. They pour a fluid resin into the ear and when it sets up it fits perfectly and allows the user to hear clearly and yet cut down the incoming decibel level.
I think it was the HEAR group that was behind the plugs. -
I swear by those molded muscian's earplugs and wear them on gigs. They are a must. They are availalable from any local ear specialist. I don't blame Paul at all for going to extremes for protecting his hearing. I would think that ear muffs would really kill off any vital frequencies.

I'm pretty sure he has hearing problems caused by excessive volumes on stage....
-
I know that I have hearing problems myself. I just can't get into the plugs. It's one of those things I've never been able to do. You lose some of the experience. I know that losing our hearing is not worth all that in the end but I guess it's just one of those things for me that I can't bend on.
I would compare it to protection in other areas of life. The experience just isn't the same -
I only wear ear plugs so I don't have to listen to myself too much
Not being a musician I only wear them when the windows are open and the neighbor's dog is barking at 3 AM -
Huh? Did you say something Frank?
-
extreme amount of talent. and lots of hard work, i'm sure
