  • Achim, you realize the problem with your list, don't you? They're almost all dead! :( That tends to make a reunion all the more problematic :D

I listed bands with all living members...I'd have to revamp my list a bit, if we're including bands in which members have passed...

    Todd

  • yes Todd, in my initial post I did add "all members alive or name a replacement". As much as Rory Gallagher would be on top of my list, he won't be playing for us. Put in some others then like Humble Pie or The Spiders From Mars.

But with Achim's list I see why he is so valuable to our discussions, as he has incredible taste in music...And if you listen to his stuff you can see he learns from what he listens to.

  • I see you all put Dave Holland in for Trapeze but realistically that aint gonna happen as he has another 4 years in prison.
Thats why i put in Chad.

I also would like to see Gary Moore rock again - with maybe the We Want Moore lineup.

How about Nazareth getting Manny Charlton back to play.

Chip, i'd like to see Greg Rolie do vocals in Journey too!

Jeff Beck Group - Truth lineup - ie with Rod Stewart.

    Iommi - Fused lineup

    Bad Company.

Mama's Boys - tho sadly Tommy died so replaced by Brian Downey.

Gillan - with Towns, McCoy, Torme and Underwood.

  • Chip, i'd like to see Greg Rolie do vocals in Journey too.!

Paul, I meant to include in my original post above, my apologies to you and Mrs. Wolfy Smith, for my Steve Perry comment :D

I can't believe I forget this one, as well as others have.......HUGHES/THRALL

    Chip

  • Personally
If you want to talk about a band that blew a great opportunity look no further than Grand Funk Railroad. After a successful 2 year run with the original trio, they were primed for 1999...30 Years of Funk and a huge sponsorship deal from from Harley Davidsen...only to disband and now you have two different warring factions out there.

    And the beat goes on.....

It's just terrible all these bands, there always seems to be either one member on the outs , or worse, sadly dead from an overdose of some kind. We finally have a Halen with Roth reunion and now Eddie hates Michael for siding with Sammy. Wolfie was good on tuesday, but he's no Michael. A friend said he caught them not singing on the mic, but he heard backup vocals, which are presumably samples, so they are definitely missing Michael. I kind of thought the backups sounded too good to be true, and I guess I'm right.

    John

  • Hey John,

I can remember listening to VH albums years ago and always thinking that it was Eddie doing all those high backing vocals. I found out otherwise the first time I saw "Live Without A Net" . My jaw hit the floor....Mike was dead on with his vocal parts and I would learn that a lot of the high screaming parts on the early albums were Mike and not Dave...

Mike was far more important than just being the bass player. His voice was a MAJOR part of the VH sound and it was missing from "Van Halen 3"...I recently read that he only played on three cuts of that CD..something to that effect. I could never understand why Eddie has such a problem with Mike....reading in that Burn interview that Mike had to cut a deal in order to play with the band on the last tour with Sammy.....he took a huge cut in pay but if that was going to be the last VH tour there was no way he was going to miss it.

Judging from your comments I think Mike is getting the last laugh!

    whitesnake-moody marsden
    rainbow-- dio AND tony carey
    deep purple ---coverdale/hughes
gary moore---we want moore(before he somehow still got the blues)
    starz
    pat travers---thrall/aldridge
sammy hagar------all night long era(red and turn up the music, young girl blues)
gillan (ill take bernie torme, or steve morse)

i.m sure there will be many more to come

  • John Fogerty and his backing band, Creedence. They were all his songs and parts, but Stu and Doug were good players. It's a shame and it will never happen. I really love John's past three albums and play them constantly.

    John

  • Wow

great topic. i could list so many off the radar bands but some of the big ones:

    -Bad Company w/Paul R.
-Journey w Steve Perry (I see I am not alone looking back at other posts)
-Van Halen with Sammy - sorry, I just feel he writes better songs

But probably one that rates VERY high................

    Cry of Love

If you've never heard their 2 cds from the early 90s you are missing out in a big way
