...except in Australia:

Well, as happens every holiday season, the so-called politically correct are out nitpicking and have found yet another fault in, and have proposed a ban on, a long-time Christmas tradition.
After wanting to take out Linus's recital of the Gospel of St.Luke in A Charlie Brown Christmas, wanting to replace the Christmas tree with the neutral holiday tree, and banning the saying of "Merry Christmas" with the more obtuse-friendly "Happy Holidays", nowadays Santa had better watch out what he says while ringing those Salvation Army or department store bells, or he's the one who's gonna be naughty.
Apparently now in Australia it's against the law for Santas to say Ho!Ho!Ho! cause it might be offensive to women.
Now my gripe is, why should any woman find it offensive unless they've got something to feel guilty about? Was it one of these radicals themselves who was too naughty?
Honestly, what's next? Banning Dickens's A Christmas Story for fear that it tells the story of mean bosses? Banning public show or representation of reindeer because it depicts animal cruelty? No mention of elves allowed anymore because they are poster children for slave labor?
Bah humbug!

A ho by any other name is just as merry...

its MUCH worse here Conchita under this Labour led bunch of buffoons
To save "upsetting" any religion the government sends out cards saying Seasons Greetings not Happy Christmas.
Christmas is known as "Winterval" in Birmingham.
Towns dont have Xmas lights they have Festive or winter lights!
This is supposed to be a Christian country.
The Queen is head of the Church of England and Defender of The Faith, a title originally given to Henry VIII by the Pope at the time.
But it has all been undermined over the last decade and more.
I could have a political rant but this is a music site..... -

England, as much of Europe, was founded on Christian principles...but as you rightly say, let's not go there...I could vent bitterly about the de-Christianization of Christmas.... -
I never cease to be amazed by the silliness of some people. Common sense is just not politically correct anymore.
Ho Ho Ho -
At a school 'somewhere' in this great land of ours
it has been decided that Santa won't be dressed in red and white any longer but green and white ... cos red and white would confuse the kids who may just want to rush off and buy ... coca cola!!!
Exasperated seems to be the only word that comes to mind these days ... over so many things. -
too funny ....just gone beyond silly anymore.

Well, as Wolfy said, this is a music site, so I will refrain from a huge diatribe.
Simply stated: To anyone who is offended by "Merry Christmas" I say screw you. If I offend you with my beliefs, then just stay clear of me and hide your eyes, after all, you are obviously too big of a moron to make a choice for yourself. Turn off the TV Show you don't like, don't listen to the crap music you don't like, don't read the paper with opposing views, etc.. But I will be damned if some Politically Correct Piece of Crap is going to tell me what I can say or do and when I can do it.
So Merry Christmas everybody, and if you celebrate something else, well, I just don't care.
Someday the world will return to normal, but we, unfortunately will not be there to see it. -

mmm what's normal? I think we have entered in a spinning wheel of nonsenses, of empty words and comments....but hey!! very sounding!!! it seems that's what matters now "the containeer over the content" tons of xmas lights... but hey! who said they are for xmas?... at the same time you cannot say "merry xmas" in case you can offend anyone... others (polititians usually) can say whatever about other people without any shame... no matter if it's true or not, everybody has listen to it, the damage is done! it's been said on tv or internet ...so it must be true!!!!
yeah ok ok, I won't enter into that.....that's another thing, but part of the same problem, I just hope someday Respect gets back its meaning... then all these bullshits will disappear
so whatever you celebrate or don't... be Merry and let be!!! -

Hi Shirl
Hang on ...green & white? Does that mean the kids will get confused & rush off to buy a Celtic football shirt?!!! -

Hey Frank
You definitely ain't a big fan of Charles Dickens' Ebenezer Scrooge then...I quote:
"If I could work my will," said Scrooge indignantly, "every idiot who goes about with 'Merry Christmas' on his lips, should be boiled with his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his heart. He should!"
Ha,is that all you're threatening us with Mr S?!
Even he saw the error of his ways though:
"I don't know what to do!" cried Scrooge, laughing and crying in the same breath; and making a perfect Laocoön of himself with his stockings. "I am as light as a feather, I am as happy as an angel, I am as merry as a school-boy. I am as giddy as a drunken man. A merry Christmas to every-body! A happy New Year to all the world! Hallo here! Whoop! Hallo!"
There you go,there's hope for everyone - I'm sure the detractors will 'see the light' ;).
What's that,another pig flying past??!!
Here endeth the lesson.................... -
Hrumph!
Well, while all of you politically in-correct people
will be getting in trouble with the cops.......
~ I ~
will be making the correct fashion statement. Heh, heh, heh.

I actually quite approve of that, I think it's nice that they go back to green and white, because after all he's only red and white because Coca Cola made him that way.
Although I thought he was green with red hemming? Either way I think they're taking back Father Christmas (not Santa).
The banning of various Christmas related things isn't really politcical correctness, it's actually just blatent anti-religious behavior. To claim that people of other religions are offended by Christmas being called Christmas is silly, I don't see how anyone could be offended by that. I understand that you might want to make it more inclusive and make a more generic holiday entitled Wintertide or whatever, but to say you CAN'T call it Christmas is silly.
Although on the other hand, thinking about it, maybe I can see the logic of seperating the Christian festival of Christmas and the commercialised general holiday and cash-cow of Christmas. Maybe calling all those things that really have nothing to do with the birth of Christ under a different banner is actually a good way of making sure that Christmas still has some kind of religious meaning.
I must say though, and I say this as a Christian, to call the UK a Christian nation in anything other than name doesn't make much sense, because the reality is that it's a multi-religious nation. Practising Christians are a minority.
To do things like sending out cards saying Seasons Greatings might have more meaning for some people than saying Merry Christmas, because I think it devalues Christmas far more if it just becomes a completely non-religious event.
Considering that Christmas is based somewhat on other pre-Christian festivites I don't think we can claim that it's a totally Christian festival through-and-through that no one else is entitled to enjoy, it's nature has changed over time. I think it's probably a good idea to keep the general festival that's always been there and have Christmas in a truer form kept seperate.
However that 'Ho!Ho!Ho!' thing really doesn't make any sense, unless that Ho meant the same thing all this time and we just never knew...
