Major reissue plans for Deep Purple's Stormbringer.

Deep Purple's classic 1974 album Stormbringer is to get the full-on reissue treatment in January 2009 (release date to be confirmed).

Stormbringer, the second and final studio album from the MK III line-up of the Purps, features Ritchie Blackmore on guitar, David Coverdale on vocals, Glenn Hughes on bass, Jon Lord on keyboards and Ian Paice on drums.

The wheels are turning again on the Stormbringer remaster. There will be a 2xCD limited slipcase edition with original quad 4.1 mixes and other goodies, including Glenn's excellent remix work, video elements and more.

Glenn has contributed some text for the booklet, and a super big transparency of the original sleeve painting has been unearthed in America to use on the reworked sleeve.

Official European release date for Stormbringer is January 19th, 2009.

I know that these DP reissues are not known for being done quickly...the understatement of the century...but I do believe that this one will be worth every second of the wait.

And Glenn's active participation makes it that much sweeter!

Hang on ladies and gentlemen...it will be here before you know it!

Deep Purple’s Stormbringer: full reissue details

EMI Records have confirmed the release of special anniversary editions of Deep Purple’s classic album Stormbringer on CD, with an accompanying DVD, and vinyl LPs. The Stormbringer reissues are due to hit the stores on February 23, 2009.

Stormbringer features the MK III Deep Purple line-up of David Coverdale (vocals), Glenn Hughes (vocals and bass), Ritchie Blackmore (guitar), Ian Paice (drums) and Jon Lord (keyboards).

Recorded in Musicland Studios, Munich and released in 1974, Stormbringer is the Deep Purple album that often doesn’t sound like a Deep Purple album. Although considered proponents of the hard rock genre, as hinted at on previous album, Burn, Stormbringer saw the band create a more funk and soul-influenced sound.

Owing to the direction of Stormbringer, it was to be Blackmore’s last studio album with the MK III line-up. He left to form Rainbow, making way for the MK IV version of Deep Purple, with American Tommy Bolin on guitar.

i agree. stormbringer and burn are 2 of my favorite deep purple albums. the burn remaster is awesome.

These are the "Glenn Hughes remix" short samples that have just been made available via dpas

I listened to the clips on my lap top and they sound great! The remix of "Hold On" was something I looked forward to as I have always loved that song....it almost sounds like Glenn found an alternate take on his vocal if you listen to it....little bits of harmony vocals tucked away that are seeing the light of day.

Just a few more weeks....

Almost there! I can't wait to hear this thing! I'm so glad that Glenn (and Roger Glover, in the case of the earlier Purple remasters) has taken the time to acknowledge his past, and made the effort to preserve it.

What's next? Do we dare hope for a remaster of Come Taste the Band? After all, it would be the only remaining album of the halcyon years of Deep Purple. Imagine if Glenn was involved again...and Jon Lord...maybe Coverdale and even Johnnie Bolin. What an amazing finish to the remaster series, with arguably the best of the MK III/MK IV bunch!

Indeed the DPAS has stated that work had begun on the CTTB remaster in the last DPAS crystall ball. But they never said they had found the multi traks so what they are working with??
