Ann Wilson has recorded her first-ever solo effort Hope & Glory, due September 11th on Zoë/ Rounder Records. The arresting vocalist branches out with a socially conscious and thought-provoking album of songs she selected to inspire the appropriately titled Hope & Glory.

Produced by Ben Mink (K.D. Lang, Feist), Hope & Glory features guest appearances from iconic artists Elton John, Gretchen Wilson, Alison Krauss, Rufus Wainwright, Ann's sister Nancy Wilson and others on unique renditions of songs made famous by Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Neil Young and more.

"Each of these songs holds a special place in my soul...At one time or another every one of them has kept me up at night to the point of exasperation and will not be banished, as I lay sleepless on my pillow. Such songs as these carry me through my life, and they are a standard to which all new music I hear and write must compare." - Ann Wilson

With the state of our times in mind, Wilson sings the story of a fallen soldier ("Where to Now St. Peter"), recounts hardship and desperation ("Immigrant Song") and takes an angel's view of a battlefield ("War of Man"). Wilson ties the entire body of work together with her stirring original song entitled "Little Problems, Little Lies", a harrowing soldier's eye view of life on the front lines.

  • Thanks for the heads up on Ann's new album Shirean. We went seeing Heart a couple of years ago and they were unbelievable. Ann Wilson is without doubt my favourite female vocalist.
I just wish she would visit England more frequentley!

Ann Wilson Taps "Immigrant Song" As First Single On Her Debut Solo Effort 'Hope & Glory"

"My love of Led Zeppelin is very much a matter of public record," says legendary vocalist Ann Wilson, so it's no surprise that she pays homage to the classic rock band on her first single from her solo debut 'Hope Glory' (Sept. 11th, ZOË/Rounder Records). Wilson, one of the few artists that can match the arresting talents of Robert Plant, puts a twist on the hard-hitting anthem "Immigrant Song".

Wilson explains, "(Producer) Ben Mink said, 'Why don't we just start you out like Yma Sumac and take the song way, way North African?' Our version starts a little like a little dot on the horizon, but by the time it's done you've been overrun by all the barbarians."

  • I just bought a new Saturn Ion and have XM radio which is just fantastic. I drove up to northern VA to fly to NYC for the Jet Blue interview; on the way up XM40 played Ann's version of "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place". It took me till the second verse or so to realize that..."Hey...that's Ann Wilson!!"

Another CD for the shopping list!
