Any suggestions on dealing with fire damage

Sorry to hear of your loss Robert and good that you're okay. If your Insurance company are any good or if you have a lawyer, they're certainly the best ones to advise you.

Robert yes these people are your first port of call.It might also be an idea to call your doctor to give you a check over. It's a nasty shock to your system. Some people need some counselling particularly with the emotional loss. Not saying you do but it could be an option for you. Take care.

Sorry to hear about what happened.
I am afire officer here in the UK and if I may, let me shed a positive note on what has happened.
Obviously, its a total disaster. Lots of mess, lost posessions and the inconvenience of it all. Then theres the phonecalls to insurance etc.(Dont let them rip you off)
But, from what you say no-one was injured (including the firefighters) so take the positives out of that. Unfortunately, alot of people are not as lucky as you.
I know you dont feel lucky right now, but someone was smiling on you!

Always keep in mid that insurance companies are notoriously SLOW. They will do any and everything to try and get out from a buck or two. For the most part, though, you should get back on your feet quicker than you'd think. As the others have said, if you have a reputable company they will work for you and get you up and about ASAP.

Beware the builders who are probably already knocking !!! Do your research and do not settle. I am sure a few of my former Floridian friends here will tell you, just be patient and things will be OK.

I am glad to hear that you were mostly unscathed and that Miles still has a few lives left !!! You need a friend like that to get you through the hardest parts.

Did I happen to see a rack/shelving with cassette tapes stored on it,
in one of the posted photographs of the fire damage?
And are those the only few GH CDs that were saved?
Maybe a few replacement "copy" CDs could be made and sent to you?
(I won't use the word "B _ _ _." There's no joke with a fire.)

PS.......In other news, call up family and friends, and ask them
to make copies of lost / damaged photographs for you.
Anybody can buy new furniture, clothes, pots and pans, etc.
but your photographs are what make you.......you.

I don't have any "machinery" but I do have a few copies
of assorted GH albums...usually car extras. Let us know if
we can help you replace anything GH that you lost in the fire.

Sleepmonk - so, so sorry to hear of your tragedy and the hardship. A friend of mine in Michigan and her family have suffered in a very similar situation recently and everyone's rallied round by sending her and her husband monies via paypal. Would be happy to do the same for you to help you rebuild your possessions.
