GLENN Rockline Interview February 7th, 2007

  • Here's the interview with GLENN on ROCKLINE, hosted by Bob Coburn, last night, Wednesday, February 7th.

Lots of good questions and answers, including news of a tentative plan for a USA tour kicking off
in June in Los Angeles :bouncer:

Plus lots of talk of Deep Purple, Trapeze, Hughes/Thrall, Pink Cloud Records, voice technique, upcoming Euro tour and more.

With songs and ads edited, run time is approximately 45 minutes.

  • thanx for the upload of the interview...

but David did you just wake up in the middle of the night when you recorded the welcome message???? You sound kinda........subdued?

  • Yeah, wolfysmith...but remember, this market here in the USA, is 'kinda like the UK & Europe way back in '91, where he had to use the common "labels" of Trapeze, Purple, Sabbath etc, so unfortunately, until he's got a solo tour or two under his belt here, it's going to start off this way.

As much as we, "veterans", crinche at it - it's a necessary evil for now :)

Ad - no, was just trying to be low-key and not grab the attention away from the content :D

  • David,
Even My Wife Mentioned That Last Night About Deep Purple !!! It Does Get A Second Look Though Here In The USA. Someday The Market Here Will Be A Bit More Sophisticated.

    Frank:div27:
"if only we'd turn around and notice the door to the cell is open"

  • Thanks for the download......very interesting...and great news about the tour....The MkIII news definitely piqued my interest! Great time to be a GHCP!!! Guess I'll go down and camp out at The Roxy...I don't live far from there and June is right around the corner!!!

  • Thanks, David, for posting this interview.

I got an e-mail reply from Associate Producer, Kristy Graham,
from the "Rockline" show, and YEP New York City's
radio station 104.3 no longer carries the show.
You betcha' I sent a (polite) e-mail to those dopes at the radio station.

Listening to your edited-out-songs version of this interview,
did Bob Coburn ONCE AGAIN play the original version of
"Stormbringer" with David Coverdale singing lead????
Nobody at their research department can tell the difference between
the voice of Glenn Hughes and the voice of David Coverdale?

    Unbelievable............:axe:

Loved the question from BC of "What can't you sing, Glenn?"
And I loved Glenn's answer even more........
"If I can sing "Ave Maria" in Latin, I can sing anything."
Glenn must have read the answer, as frequently mentioned HERE, by us GHCPs.

Hopefully, a tour by that new band - Em Kay Three?

    Listen Glenn......
....a few years ago, my oldest daughter and son-in-law were
going to a very fancy Halloween party. Greg rented a costume
of Captain Hook, and my daughter wanted to go as Peter Pan,
but she couldn't find the right outfit. So I sewed an appropriate
hat, tunic, and pointy toed shoes (more like moccasins) out of
dark green velveteen fabric. She was supposed to be Peter Pan,
but she could easily have "been" Robin Hood, too.
(She bought, and wore, a pair of dark green tights to complete the outfit.)

So if one of Ritchie Blackmore's conditions for a MK3 reunion concert,
is that everybody in the band MUST wear medieval costumes,
    you've got that baby covered.

I'll make the damn outfit for you!
    No charge, even!

Now I'll go drink some coffee from my GH/DC coffee mug :hi5:
And the possibility of a US Tour?
Gonna' start singing Handel's Allelujah Chorus........

    Grace

  • Personally i dont think MARK III can happen with Blackmore as he doesnt seem as tho he wants to play rock any more.
If RB did agree it would sell out here in 5 minutes - he is still revered as a rock god even if Blackmores Night isnt to everyones liking.

But that doesnt mean DC, GH and JL cant play with another guitarist and drummer (Chad).

    Paul,
If David Coverdale, Glenn Hughes, and Jon Lord
stood on some street corner, called themselves the

    "Mellow Kings 3" :) :) :)

and only hummed do-wop harmony........I would be happy.

Of course, they would probably need to wear matching suits,
and have worked out some fancy footwork choreography, too.

  • Glenn is a great interview as always. It's interesting how his replies on rockline when you hear them as audio do not sound as annoyed angry or otherwise like they do in the chats. This is one of the things that is bad about printed word, chat and email....You do not get the true inflection of what the person is intending to say, instead it comes off completely different. Several times recently I've written replies to people and they completely misread what I have said, thinking yes was no and no was yes, etc... this would never happen on the phone or in person.

I've been doing some "friendly searching" through the GH Rockline interviews,
and I came across this quote from Glenn, from the 2007 interview.

Which led me to think that if there were tons of merchandise for sale at each and every
GH performance world-wide, I would love to be able to get a t-shirt that said:

Glenn Hughes ~ The Voice of Latin
(With some snappy Gregorian Chant background graphics on it, too.)

This would be in the t-shirt section, right next to the GH t-shirts that said:
    Glenn Hughes ~ The Voice of Rock;
    Glenn Hughes ~ The Voice of Funk;
    etc, etc.

PS............and let us know when 'US citizen Hughes' opens a game.
