Am surprised nobody's posted about this...After his final show, the first date of a tour opening for Jeff Beck in Miami, Tommy Bolin died of a multiple drug overdose in the early morning hours of December 4. What a terrible, senseless loss of a great musician. With people like Glenn and Jeff Beck (who I saw in Sept) still out there performing at their best in their mid 50s (and Beck is 62) who knows what Tommy could have been accomplishing at 55.

A great shame indeed.
RIP Tommy -
I have a few dozen Tommy Bolin releases...from his days with Zephyr, Energy, James Gang, Deep Purple and as a solo artist. I have all of the Tommy Bolin Archives releases - demos, live albums, guest sessions, you name it. And I continue to be amazed at the depth of talent that man had. Gone, but surely not forgotten.
Cheers...Todd -
well i had private eyes spinning most of the day ... a word from glenn would be nice - but i guess he has new friends now
-
No doubt, Tommy was still just a youngster and I'm sure his best was yet to come...sadly, we'll never know.....
-
Thanks for the reminder... By coincidence I picked up a cd with Tommy Bolin this morning to play in the car on my way to work. (Bang and Miami demos - James Gang) It must have been in my subconsciousness or something... 30 years... can you believe that. A great musician Tommy was.

Gone but not forgotten. RIP, Tommy

i am still accumulating his archive material. the sheer volume and quality of his demos is truly amazing. A real loss to the music world.
Wild Dogs is still in my top 10 all time songs. -
The great Tommy! RIP!

The man was too young but alas the light that burns twice as bright burns half as long!
-
Tommy Bolin. What a waste! Songs like Wild Dogs, Teaser, Lotus, Dreamer (with Glenn) Toastee, People People, Sweet Burgundy will always talk to me. I am just glad I saw him live. A true innocent. An amazing talent.

Just been playing Whips and Roses. So much fantastic music that wasn't released at the time and we've had to wait so long for.
-
...a year later....31 years ago today
-
yep 31... as many others I was too young then but discovered him later...as many others will do in the future... such a real touching talent won't ever disappear...
-
Tommy Bolin passed away in the early morning hours of December 4th, 1976, following the opening show of a tour supporting Jeff Beck.
He was an amazing, vital, creative musician. Who knows what could have been, had he lived?
RIP
Cheers...Todd -
Have thought about this all day. Losing musicians so young is a tragedy.
