Upcoming Setlist

  • I think we all should support Glenn in suggesting some songs we would like to hear on the upcoming M4TD tour.
Generally, I would love to see more songs from the very good album "Building The Machine" which has such great songs on it and I still think the production is amazingly good, certainly better than SITKOR, productionwise.

My "dream" setlist would be the following (no particular order):

    ADDICTION
    DOWN
    WHEN YOU FALL
    INSIDE
    SOUL MOVER
    HIGHER PLACES
    SECOND SON
    STEPPIN` ON
    BLACK LIGHT
    FRAIL
    THIS LIFE
    BIG TIME
    LIVIN` FOR THE MINUTE
    I GOT YOUR NUMBER

    ENCORES:

    TALK ABOUT IT
    IN FOR THE KILL

    That would be my choice.
    Other suggestions?

    cheers, Achim

  • Still waiting for M4td so cant give a setlist yet but i would suggest Talking to Messiah. my favourite song on Feel and i think the funky rock groove of the song would fit right in with what glenn is doing now.

    :ghcp: "It's in my blood"

  • Great setlist Achim! If I was to choose a setlist for a night on the upcoming 2006 tour, it would be something like this:

    1. The Valiant Denial (M4TD)
    2. The Boy Can Sing The Blues (Blues)
    3. Redline (Feel)
    4. Monkey Man (M4TD)
    5. This House (M4TD)
    6. Soulmover (Soulmover)
    7. Higher Places (SITKOR)
    8. Blue Jade (Addiction)
    9. Stoned In The Temple (The Way It Is)
    10. Black Light (M4TD)
    11. Don't Let Me Bleed (Soulmover)
    12. Down the Wire (Incense & Peaches)
    13. Lay My Body Down (From Now On)
    14. Steppin' On (M4TD)
    15. No Stranger to Love (Seventh Star)
    16. The Truth Will Set Me Free (The Way It Is)
    17. Frail (M4TD)
    18. Coast to Coast (Hughes/Thrall)
    19. Written All Over Your Face (SITKOR)

    encore:
    20. Coffee & Vanilla (Feel)
    21. Loser (You Are the Music)

    encore 2:
    22. I Found A Woman (Play Me Out)
(or anything from Play Me Out!)

It was pretty hard to keep Glenn on 22 songs, which is a bit much already of course.

    cheers!

    - Fedor

  • As Glenn has made so much great music in the past 10 years, i reckon that he should save all the old classic, Trapeze, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath stuff for the outdoor festival circuit and instead concentrate on where he is right now for his upcoming tour.

How about this for a set list, every one is a great track and would show that he is an artist who is moving forward not living in the past

    Valiant Denial
    Steppin on
    Monkey man
    Frail
    This how i feel
    High road
    Dark star
    Down on me
    Stoned in the temple
    Written all over your face
    The way it is
    Courageous
    Talk about it
    where ever you go

    encore
    Blue Jade
    Soulmover

  •
    - Soul mover
    - Steppin On
    - The valiant denial
    - Coast to coast
    - This is how i feel
    - Whereever you go
    - This house
    - You got soul
    - Last mistake
    - From now on
    - Blue Jade
    - The way it is
    - Does it mean that much to you
    - the boy can sing the blues
    - Your love is like a fire

    encore:
    Black Cloud
You are the music we're just the band
    :claphands

  • Fedor, that setlist was wonderful! What are the chances of this happening?

Seriously, Glenn is in a position now where he probably could go out and do it! What do you guys think?

    Daniel

  • I love all albums of Glenn, I think that he trust play more songs of his solo material. I love "Gasoline" of Songs in key of Rock. I don't listen the new album yet, I can't wait!!

    -NANDO-

  • And let's hope the M4TD shows are longer than the SM ones...

I was thinking about this... Don't you think it's actually realistic for Glenn to play something along the lines of Fedor's setlist? How many % of his audience in Europe actually only know him from Mk III? I would bet most people have any of his own solo albums and treasure these equally to the DP output.

    What do you think?

  • you guys i have to say it- glenn is past 50 years old-the way he sings do you really think he can sing all those songs with out hurting himself ?

  • I think Glenn is in a very good shape now and he can play a long set list if he wants.
I remember the amazing long show in Zoetermeer (Holland).. and yes ..Glenn can play his solo stuff only with great confidence. There is so many songs that he can pick from that it will be a feast anyway. Fedors’ list is a great plan, and I am shore there’s a lot of other wishes to.. hard to make a choice realy..

  • My suggestion based on songs that will transfer well to the live enviroment are as follows,

    Valiant Denial
    Soul Mover
    Steppin On
    C'ant stop the flood
    Monkey man
    Seaful
    Sail away
    High Road
    Land of the livin
    You got soul
    D'ont let me bleed

    Encore:
    Getting tighter
    You fool no one.

  • The Valiant Denial (M4TD)
    Soul Mover (Soul Mover)
    Monkey Man (M4TD)
    Steppin' Out (M4TD)
    Getting Tighter (CTTB)
    Mistreated (Burn)
    Frail (M4TD)
    Addiction or Down (Addiction)
    Too High (M4TD)
    Can't Stop The Flood (BTM)
    Muscle and Blood (Hughes Thrall)
Written All Over Your Face (SITKOR)
    You Got Soul (M4TD)
    You Keep on Moving (CTTB)

    Let it Go (Soul Mover)
Burn...cos you gotta leave em with a smile :)

  • I definitely think Glenn should ditch all the old DP stuff, save for Burn perhaps as that is such an integral song. Ie, no Mistreated, no Gettin Tighter etc. Will give him more time to play solo stuff.

  • Just like Mark 3 and Keith Thompson, I think the set should open with
    The Valiant Denial
    Soul Mover
then throw in another one from the new album
    Steppin' On
calm things down a little with
    Space High
    go on with
    Orion
    You Got Soul
    down to
    Nights in White Satin
    Coast To Coast (Acoustic)
    I Found A Woman (Acoustic)
    This House
    and rise again with
    Can't Stop The Flood
    Muscle and Blood
    Monkey Man
    Written All Over Your Face
    Medusa
    encores
    Sail Away
    Burn

hmmmm. Hard decisions, guys and girls.
I left out many songs that I'd actually like to hear, but who don't fit (anymore) into that setlist (Losing My Head, Higher Places, Land Of The Living, Highball Shooter, Mistreated, Getting Tighter)
I'm already very curious what it will be!

    Cheers,
    Christian

    MEDUSA

  • They're all great setlists, and I would be happy to hear any one of them :clapper:

Here is my contribution:* I would like to see Glenn do some "medleys" on this tour where he segues one song into the other..

    THE VALIANT DENIAL
    CAN'T STOP THE FLOOD
    NEVERAFTER
YOU GOT SOUL/WAY BACK TO THE BONE
    SOUL MOVER
COAST TO COAST/THE DIVINE (Both Done Acoustic)
    STEPPIN' ON
    MADELEINE
    BIG TIME
    MIDNIGHT MEDITATED
    MONKEY MAN
    DARK STAR/TOO HIGH
    HOLD OUT YOUR LIFE

    Encore:

    HIGHER PLACES
    BURN/BLACK LIGHT

Let's Kick It With A Tasty Groove :guitarmet

  • On the Deep Purple debate, I do still think that there is a certain sector of the audience who are not as well clued up on his solo career as we are, and come along knowing only of his Purple heritage. I have chatted to plenty of people on the Soul Mover tour who said they were looking forward to seeing what Glenn was up to now but also a reminder of where he has come from. It's like an invisible contract. Even the most forward thinking artists (as Glenn is) will put at least two from their past life in there. I really do think it's good PR to do so, particularly when there are still remasters e.g Stormbringer to be done and past masters to be sold.

  • I think he should play the DP classics, because these songs are simply the best songs that has featured Glenn, lets face it, his solo work is very good but doesn't even come close to the majestic grandeur of Gettin Tighter, You Keep On Moving or Burn to name a few.

  • Quote from Chris Ash

Will have to agree to disagree with you on that one Chris :)

But of the lists folks have come up with, I think everyone would walk away happy :singer:
