The Heat is ON - The GHCP Funk Fiesta!

  • Ok, GHCP's - get your freak flag flying! Then get out your sunscreen and grab a cold drink, cause the heat is on!

The funk will be hitting Phoenix, Arizona on JULY 15, 2006. It's the first (ahem) organized GHCP fan gathering!

WHERE: The Ritz Charlton, aka Chip's desert home, where you'll enjoy food, drink and the poolside company of like-minded fans of the Voice of Rock.

    WHEN: Saturday, July 15, 2006

WHY: Because it's high time that we get out of the house and get some fresh air. And who better to do that with than a few crazy Glenn Hughes fans?!

WHAT TO EXPECT: Food from the great Southwest, pub grub, British beer, a trip through Glenn's Hughes-tory in the Trapezeum and door prizes!

Enjoy classic video of Big Daddy, both solo and with Deep Purple. The jukebox will be spinning an eclectic mix of music Glenn has recorded throughout the years. And as the sun lights the Western horizon, we'll retire to the pool to wrap up the 1st of what will hopefully become an annual fan retreat (not counting GH's gigs, of course, at which we'll continue to gather in various combinations).

For more information (hotels, airport, nearby attractions for those who want to make a weekend of it, etc) or to RSVP and confirm your attendance, please email Chip or myself, or send us a Private Message through this site.

    Cheers...Todd & Chip

  • How much money will it cost to buy tickets for the tour of:

"THE CHARLTON COLLECTION - GLENN HUGHES SHRINE ROOM"?

Will inventories of rare Glenn Hughes CDs be taken before,
    during and after this event?

Will video-security cameras be installed in each room?

Do we get a "meet and greet" free photo with Chuy?

Is there enough money in the bail fund, after the neighbors
call the cops, because the music is too loud?

How many GH song lyrics MUST be memorized?

Will axes be required to go through a metal detector?

Will a free funeral be provided if any GHCP is killed by a jalapeno pepper?

Thank you for your prompt response, FFF Committee.

  • I was only thinking about this recently so good that we've now got a date. A lot to organise then ... :D

'You thought that you could take me for granted, but I couldn't take it no more. Better run if you see me coming ... '

  • Ordinarily, you might expect to pay tens - maybe even hundreds - of dollars for such an experience. But now, as part of this special offer, we're able to bring all of this to you for the low, low price of nothing! That's right - nothing down, nothing owed. Ever. It's free. Gratis. On the house.

    You'll get:

A genuine Southwestern experience in the desert oasis of Phoenix, Arizona. Complete with blazing hot sun, towering cartoon-like cactus and the company of the people crazy enough to live in such a place!

A Glenn Hughes experience which will engage your eyes and ears, as you immerse yourself in screenings of Soulfully Live in the City of Angels, California Jam and more!

Door prizes! We can't tell you what they are, but they're sure to become cool little collectors items in their own right.

    But wait - there's more!

Free admission into the Trapezeum - an entire room crammed with Glenn Hughes memorabilia, from Trapeze to present day.

And yes - a meet-and-greet and photo opportunity with GHCP (Glenn Hughes Crazy Pooch) Chuy!

Act now - operators are standing by.

    Cheers...Todd

PS Hmm, Grace should everyone be subjected to search on their way out? And will you be the security force on premises? lol

Just how hot will it be?

Oh yeah Wolfy, it will be plenty hot in 'Zona in July. It is not that humid, horrid heat we get here in FLA though.

  • Well seeing how crazy I've become I am seriously considering the trip out to Arizona!! I figure what the hell, I'll make a weekend of it!

What kind of English beer are we talking? I like lots of em :p

Sounds like a good time though!

  • We were thinking Newcastle Brown and Boddington's. But if there's something else that's available in town, we'll pick that up too.

By the way, for those of you wondering what else there is to do in Phoenix on the weekend of the GHCP get-together, a couple things are:

Alice Cooperstown - Alice Cooper's rock and sports eatery, filled with all kinds of memorabilia.

Hard Rock Cafe - a bit lackluster as Hard Rock's go, but it's there.

Arizona Diamondbacks - the Major League Baseball team has several home games over this particular weekend. So if that's your bag, enjoy one while in town. But buy tickets now.

Cactus, cactus, cactus - big ones, little ones...monstrous cartoon ones just like in the old Warner Brothers cartoons.

Any questions, please email either Chip or myself. Or heck, ask here.

    Cheers...Todd

  • Hi everyone -

Todd and I would like to remind everyone of the Funk Fest on July 15th. Details can be found in the first post within this thread.

Also, since time seems to by flying by rather quickly, at least to me it is, we're starting to do some serious planning of the weekend. We were wondering if we could get some preliminary numbers on how many of you are planning on making the trek to the desert. No need to give a definite answer as of yet. We're just curious as to what we're up against so we can plan out some things.

We'll be asking again as the date draws nearer.

Hope you can make it. It'll be a blast.

    Chip

    Chip

  • Well, let's see - you count me in, and I'll count you in. That makes two. Add our wives, and that's four. Chuy makes five. (Unfortunately, Buster won't be able to make it...)

    Next...?

    Cheers...Todd

  • Ok, all you procrastinators...the Funk Fiesta is getting closer now - it's just a month away! So let's do another ROLL CALL :)

I will be there. Chip will be there. Chip's wife Lea and a possible novice (read: as-yet-unfunkified) GHCP friend will be there. I think David will be there. Frank, you still in? How about you, Forever Young? Jon L? What about you, John H?

If you haven't made plans yet, there's still plenty of time to do so. But that doesn't mean you should wait any longer :D With that in mind, here are a few links that may help you make up your mind and solidify those plans:
