Roundhouse, London 1977

  • Advertisement taken from the June 4th, 1977 issue of New Musical Express for a show at The Roundhouse in London on Sunday, June 12th, 1977 featuring UFO, Trapeze and Nutz!

Not sure if GLENN was involved, although he would of recently left Deep Purple at that time, so possibly. Perhaps someone knows?

    Good diverse line-up, nonetheless

  • Hello David,

The first thing I flashed on when I saw this was the UFO concert that was filmed and recorded in April 1976. Some of the footage appears in the video "Too Hot To Handle" which was a video history of the band. Zoom Club Records released the audio of the show several years back entitled "On With The Action". And Nutz were the opening act then as well!

But Trapeze too?? Whatever the line-up, that must have been one barn burning night of rock n' roll!!

The stuff you must have stashed away... ;)

  • I saw Trapeze supported by Nutz at Colwyn Bay Pier around the 21st november 1977 (it was my first ever proper gig ) followed by Uriah Heep a week later in Liverpool.

Trapeze was the Mel Galley, Dave Wright on bass, Pete Goalby (later of Heep ) on vocals n geetar plus a drummer I can't remeber but dont think it ws Dave Holland.

I have to admit that I did nt like Trapeze then - but Nutz were superb (check out Nutz Live Cutz!!!!!).

I have subsequently seen the light and apprecaite the funk that is Trapeze.

  • Aye, the same legendary person who thought REO were a fab rock band and used to dj at shows at the pier!!!

    Who are you then?

  • Ahh yes, the memories come flooding back of The Pier 1980 1982 when there were bands galore put on....

Tygers of Pan Tang (with John Sykes), Samson with Bruce Dickenson on vocals, even the great whitesnake were due to play there as a promotion for the snakebite ep but deemed the 1000 capacity and stage too small!!!! Diamond Head, Wishbone Ash, Saxon, Bernie Torme, Rage (who were Nutz in the late 70's ) also returned to play, Trust (the French rockers with Nicko McBain on tubs).

Locals bands such as Trident, Harvest Moon, Vengeance - jeez there was a hotbed of bands in the area.

    Sadly no Glenn Hughes tho!!!!

  • Hi guys,
you're making me wish I'd had born ten years earlier in completely different place than Finland... :) :) :) :)

Chris, do you mind telling us about those gigs? It is always so nice to read something that special...

    T :)
