Soulfully Live DVD Re-Release

  • Hello!
I got my Deadline version of SLITCOA yesterday and...hmmm...I'm not sure if it has been fixed...I didn't watch it through and I used my laptop to watch it, but somehow I got the feeling that problem with synch is still there. At least in some parts of DVD. Plus - it is still very dark, which is kinda funny because photos from that gig look great! :bouncer: :bouncer: :bouncer: :bouncer:

    T:) :bouncer: :bouncer: :bouncer: :bouncer:

  • I got my new version a few days ago. The picture quality looks the same. But, the synch is definitely much, much better. It was always the synch problem that bothered me, even more so than the picture. Compare the start of Medusa on both versions to see what a difference there is.

The font used for the text to introduce each song is different from the first version. Unfortunately, Seafull is introduced as Seafall. Only a minor mistake I know, but still very annoying. Where is the quality control?

Overall, I am happier with this version. It is the only version I will watch and show to other people from now on.

Now all I need to get is the Japanese version so that I can have the video for The Healer. This GH obsession doesn't come cheap, does it?

  • Hi

Can anybody confirm that the japanese DVD of S.L.i.t.C.o.A. has the clip of "the healer"?. The G.H. obsession is not cheap but he is very prolific :D . At least, on the last albums he has aternated the european and japanese bonus tracks.

    Thanks.

    Pere

  • Thanks for the confirmation cameronip re the DVD corrections :) But like you say, ashame about the typos!!

Helena, you can read all about the DVD contents by visiting the SLITCOA page over in the CTC section of the site. The edition that cameronip is referring to, is a newly released USA edition, that corrects some syncing issues which are found in the original European & Japanese releases.

Pere, yes - the Japanese edition of the DVD does include the video of The Healer.

  • After a quick looking over it's definetely not a big improvement. My guess is that the master did not give them much to work with. The sinc may be better, but it is still not perfect. The packaging is nice- in a 4 disc Jewel CD case. Still this is a great value for anyone who doesn't have the CD or the video- getting both for less than $20.

    Mark

  • Finally got a copy of this package.

Hey Mark, have to disagree with you slightly - on our system the picture looks sharper and in places lighter, so you're able to see things that weren't visible before (peoples faces, colours of clothes...minor details like that). The lossy, grainy spots that were in some scenes are all gone and so the picture is clearer. There are the odd places where the sync issue is still visible, but overall, I would say it's like watching two very different discs. As has been said before, this one is one you can proudly show off when someone says - Glenn who? :)

Plus it's a great deal, especially for those overseas, what with the current exchange rate!!

Attached are the back & front covers from this newly issued USA edition.

  • This specific release is USA only....it's a great price, so you should be able to pick it up really cheaply.

As for a Europe specific update of the DVD, it doesn't sound like Frontiers have any plans to do so, although they were supposed of pressed some more with these improvements, but they're not indicating there's any difference on the packaging, so it's pure luck if you happen to get one.

Thank you!, i just looked, and it looks really good, I think i may have to make another order from amazon soon! Helena.

  • David - I stand corrected! As I said, I just quickly looked it over- and only with the side by side comparison, it is a significant improvement. But for those who have not yet seen the original... I wouldn't want their expectations too high- for the video quality anyway. But the performance is of course very, very good!

  • just recieved my copy from amazon. i am more happy with this version of the dvd, they seem to have tightend up the sync!.i especially look forward to showing my wife as on seeing the first version she said that it looked that glenn was miming!!!! ,i can tell you it was nearly a divorse case!!!!

  • I mentioned a few months ago that I'd emailed Frontiers about the alleged 'improved' european version. I emailed them 4 times in the end, but didn't get a reply to ANY of them. (Oh, cept for an automatic 'out of office' reply to the first one.)

Has anyone had any better results? As they don't seem to give a shit, I'd doubt they'll've produced an improved version at all - unless anyone's got definitive confirmation they have....

Guess that was however many quid down the drain & I'll haveta get the US version. It was only the syncing that bothered me - didn't mind the graininess & darkness, but the syncing means I've only ever watched it twice!!!!

Unfortunately, I've already got the CD too.

  • At long last I have it!!!!!! Went to see Hans Zermuehlen in Seal Beach doing Jazz fusion, then popped over to Tower in nearby Long Beach to get it. I just looked at some of the songs...and I quite enjoyed what I saw. Sometimes I feel the entire audio is dubbed in...and is it just me or did Glenn go in and over dub Kevin and Alex's voices (especially on WAOYF)? A great performance and I'm also enjoying the CD's, which I probably would not have bought otherwise....I'm a little bit finished with live albums. No real complaints here. Oh yeah, I saw myself on it too. Thanks for fixing this.

    John

  • Well, got it & finally managed to find time to watch it t'other night. The sync's certainly a whole lot better - I could enjoy the performance & I didn't spend the whole time cringeing!!!!!!!

certainly worth having & I'm glad I bothered to get it, but still feel it could've been a lot better. Altho I can imagine showing it to peeps that're not familiar with Glenn (which I would never've done with the European version!!!) I think I'd just opt for CDs to 'convert' people....

I'd agree that there seems to be a cuppla 'visible' vocal overdubs, but not enough to bother me personally.

As David wrote, the Japanese version contains The Healer. But, I personally wouldn't buy it just for the bonus video (unless you are a serious collector like Chip) ;)

That's why Chip had to move out of his small house,
and buy that museum to live in, for:

"The Chip Charlton ~ Glenn Hughes Collection."

Now Chip lives in a tool shed in the back yard of the museum.
And Chuy is the official GHCP killer-attack watch dog.

    Right, Chip?
