DP on "Rockline" tonight....

  • It's two weeks tonight, since GH and JLT were on "Rockline."
So they will ask their "encore question" of Deep Purple......

    10:30 to 1:00am.....Eastern US Time
    NYC area....104.3

  • You mean 'extremely famous' axe murderer Grace from NJ, who honours us with her presence as a forum regular?

'You thought that you could take me for granted, but I couldn't take it no more. Better run if you see me coming ... '

  • First of all:
    Folks:
I'm sorry if anybody got confused by my posting.
I mistakenly typed that "Rockline" started at 10:30, when actually it started at 11:30 (Eastern time).

I'm more amazed than anybody, that I was able to get through to "Rockline" a second time.
I'm not going to try to push my luck anymore!!!

Of course, I AM NOT HAPPY with Roger Glover's answer to my question.

    And yes Shirl....
IT IS...fan-forum regular, extremely famous, axe murderer Grace from New Jersey USA.
(HOW do I manage to get into so much trouble???)

    But you know.....SERIOUSLY.....
the most important part of the interview, was when Steve Morse called in, from his home in Florida, and told the story behind his composition "Contact Lost," the instrumental last track on the new DP album, "Bananas."

It seems that Kalpana Chawla was a big Deep Purple fan. (She was one of the seven astronauts lost, when the space shuttle Columbia disintegrated over Texas and Louisiana on re-entry into the earth's atmosphere, a year ago.)

The day that that happened Steve Morse composed "Contact Lost" the title taken from a statement made by NASA. She had met with DP and knew them, so she had taken some DP albums with her, into space. After the tragedy, and while DP was performing in Mexico, her husband presented the DP members with framed, (authenticated by NASA) recovered pieces of those DP albums. SO "Contact Lost" is Steve Morse's tribute to his friends.

    Incredible story.

  • The other things is that the 3 CDs that she took up with her were Machine Head, _|_ (I think) and Rainbow's Down to Earth (which has Airey and Glover on it). Of the three, only Down to Earth wasn't broken. That is too strange!

  • Well, it was nice to hear your voice Grace. I know Roger Glover's answer wasn't what you were looking for, but at least you know where the Purple point of view is coming from. It was always going to be a long shot....

I remember reading an interview with Gillan and he was asked about it and he didn't like the idea. He said something along the lines of it it happened, he wouldn't be part of it. And he's a pretty big part of Purple!

    JG

"How can you lose, when you're destined to be a winner?"

  • Hey James,
Now that you might recognize my voice,
it will mess up my plans to become an
    "international phone stalker," huh?

I've been thinking about the answer that
Roger Glover gave to my question.

If Jon Lord was throwing "cold water on the idea,"
wouldn't he have said "that would be a fantasy"
or "that would be a nightmare?"
Wouldn't you say "that would be a dream"
if it was something that you wanted to do??

He seemed happy to "talk" to GH and JLT.

And DC appeared with GH for Christmas 2000,
and according to the photo printed on my coffee
mug (beaker) they look happy hugging each other.

OK, RB's appearance depends on whether or not
his mother-in-law even gives him the message,
but was it Ian Gillan he was talking about,
when he mentioned "too many egos flying around"?

There's just something in RG's tone of voice,
during his answer, that just doesn't "ring true."

    Well, that's MY DREAM, anyway!!!!!!

    axmuremoticon.gif

  • The fact that JLT might be working with Candice and I assume RB again soon is another positive first step. You're definitely right about Gillan though Grace....besides, I'm really after a MK III reunion, so he wouldn't be missed

  • Hey Paul,

If enough of us yell loud enough, maybe we
    could get things cookin' here!!!!

Nobody (not you, not me) wants a repeat of history,
with the Deep Purple line-up of MKIII, permanently
replacing Airey, Gillan, Glover or Morse.

I don't know about radio in Ireland, but in America,
classic rock stations play Led Zep,The Who, The Doors
and Pink Floyd. Once a year they drag SOTW out of the vaults,
and whenever I call in to a station and ask for "anything GH,"
their computer tells them to play the original version of "Burn."

I get a catalogue from a t-shirt company, that has pages of Greatful Dead,
Beatles, AC/DC posters, t-shirts,books, etc. They have zilch for Deep Purple.

Bottom line, I'd like DP to have a re-union concert
(OK, one time only, proceeds going to charity)
if only to remind the rock world that after so many years of existance,
they deserve recognition and respect, which I don't think they've gotten.

Anybody ever hear of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?
    Anybody inducted Deep Purple yet?????

    axmuremoticon.gif

  • As much as we might like to see all of the members of the Deep Purple lineups unite, what would be the point? It really would serve no purpose. The current lineup of Purple will likely see the band to its final days, and I'm fine with that. I've always been a fan of Ian Gillan, both with Purple and as a solo artist. And he was incredibly gracious when I met him several years ago.

The only bands I've heard of that even attempted anything close to the reunion idea are Motorhead (the Birthday Concert) and Thin Lizzy (the Live/Life album). While it's fun to imagine Glenn performing with the Mk III lineup again, I think it's a notion best left in our imagination - where it can be pulled off without a hitch!

Unless the band members are present to perform at a Rock N Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony...

    Cheers..Todd

  • Hey Shirl....

I met the infamous NY axe murderer, rod ein her car with G blasting out and survived in tact too !!

Just beware of the ca - no - li which might be poisoned !!!!

  • You forgot to mention a minor detail, Chris.
FIRST......you tried to steal my car by making it appear
that you were mistakenly and innocently getting in
on "the British passenger side." Didn't fool me none.

PS....Want to scan the photograph here, of you "driving my car,"
with the flag of Scotland flying???
Or maybe you and Lyn at the Brooklyn shore, below the Verazzano?

PPS.....I'm glad that it's cold in Scotland in January.
Prevents food from spoiling. (I hope.)

  • Hi Grace!

It was really a good question you raised to Roger.

I am not happy either about his answer but your question helped the question be clarified.

    Thanks Grace!

  • Hi Tony,

    There's an American saying:
"It ain't over 'till the fat lady sings."
So as long as I don't sing (ha, ha) there's still
a chance for a Deep Purple all-star concert, someday.

I hope that you will enjoy GH/JLT in Japan!!!!!
    Are you going to 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 concerts?

I always wanted to ask you:
Are you one of the great back-up singers
on "Burning Japan Live" from 1994?

Have a great time and enjoy...........
    Grace

  • Hello Tony,

I'm a little confused about the last sentence in your posting.
I was trying to find out, if you happened to be in the audience
when "Burning Japan Live" was recorded in 1994, and so that
would make you one of the "back-up singers" on the album.

    My e-mail is: Tourmaline27@aol.com

SO GLAD that you enjoyed the GH/JLT shows!!!!!
