BCC clean up at Planet Rock !!

  • Quite rightly too , the educated folk at Planet Rock have voted BCC No 1 in a number of categories & Joe Bonamassa winner in a couple of others :claphands :claphands :claphands

    BAND OF THE YEAR:
    WINNER: BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION

The first rule of supergroups is that they are must be a crushing disappointment. Black Country Communion obviously didn’t get the memo and despite playing just two unbelievable concerts this year they have beaten several very big bands to win this category by some margin. An excellent album, several musicians at the top of their game and a bunch of songs that put the classic in classic rock. More please. Much, much more.
    Runners Up:
    2) Iron Maiden
    3) Muse
    4) Slash
    5) Alice Cooper

    ALBUM OF THE YEAR
    WINNER: SLASH – SLASH

How was this any good? Yes, Slash is a rock god, oozing cool from every pore of his being. But this was an album of tracks featuring different singers. And one of them is in the Black Eyed Peas. However, Mr Saul Hudson eschewed the vanity project that many guitarists end up with when they’re at a loose end. It’s coherent, it flows, every song could be a single… it’s an instant classic as good as anything Slash has done in twenty years. And the Fergie track is awesome. Bring on album number two.

    Runners Up:
    2) Iron Maiden – Final Frontier
    3) Black Country Communion – Black Country Communion
    4) Joe Bonamassa – Black Rock
    5) Robert Plant – Band Of Joy
    6) Airbourne – No Guts No Glory
    7) Voodoo Six – Fluke?
    8) Bruce Springsteen – The Promise
    9) The Union – The Union
    10) Ozzy Osbourne – Scream

    LIVE ACT OF THE YEAR
    WINNER: JOE BONAMASSA
He’s the hardest working guitarist out there. Want proof? He’s released a new solo album this year, recorded and released a new album with Black Country Communion, recorded another solo album and appeared on his girlfriend’s album. Oh, and he’s played more than 200 gigs in 2010. It’s a staggering feat made even more amazing due to the fact that he’s one of the most loved blues guitarists on the planet with a relentless stream of praise from everyone that’s been to see him at a gig in the past 5 years. Find someone that HASN’T enjoyed a Joe Bonamassa live show and we’ll show you a person that doesn’t know music.
    Runners Up:
    2) Muse
    3) Iron Maiden
    4) Airbourne
    5) Kiss
    6) Alice Cooper
    7) Motorhead
    8) Robert Plant & The Band Of Joy
    9) Bon Jovi
    10) Eric Clapton & Steve Winwood

    GUITAR HERO OF 2010
    WINNER: JOE BONAMASSA

For the second year running Joe beats a whole host of guitarists that have been at the top of their game for decades. Joe’s star is rising fast and it’s only a matter of time before the world at large realises what they’re missing. His reputation now precedes him and his name is now mentioned in the same sentence as the guitar legends he seems to keep beating in these polls. We can’t wait to see what he does next.
    Runners up:
    2) Slash
    3) Tony Iommi
    4) Jeff Beck
    5) Eric Clapton

    BEST NEW BAND
    WINNER: BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION

BCC are an unparalleled success in supergroup terms. Anticipation was high before the band even had a name. The idea of Glenn Hughes returning to rock and recruiting Joe Bonamassa on guitar with the rhythms of Bonham driving the whole thing along was undeniably exciting, and when they delivered on their promise it was almost too good to be true. They received more than half of the votes in this category.
    Runners up:
    2) The Union
    3) Gaslight Anthem
    4) The Jokers
